Here are five lessons for 2013.
First, the basis for being free is knowledge. Without knowledge, the ignorant are easily fooled.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization,
it expects what never was and never will be."- Thomas Jefferson
In ancient society the education of a free man was the Seven Arts or the Seven Arts of a Liberal Education (liberal as in "free man"). The first three of those arts is called the Trivium. Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric which used to be the basis for an elementary education prior to public education introduced in the late 19th Century. It rests upon the shoulders of individuals today to rediscover this education and unlearn the illogical nature of a "modern" education.
An easy first step to introducing someone to just how corrupted our society is... is to examine logical fallacies (lies). If one looks, one will find logical fallacies everywhere... "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me"(Once someone lies to you, they have given you fair warning). Most commercials have numerous fallacies, as well as, tv shows, movies, news, magazines and even how people interact. Once a person starts to realize this they have the basis to understand who to trust and who not to... a very valuable lesson.

The Education System and the Academic Mercenary... those degrees aren't so shiny anymore!
I wanted to do an in depth discussion on the dramatic down turn our education system has taken over the past 40-50 years. But while doing some research and again, the fine people I bump into posting on some of my favorite places, I've found that I really am no match for the expertise they provide. So on this one I'm just going to point to three sources that really blow me away.
The first is School Sucks Podcast. It's taken me several months to digest all his podcasts but I can say I've really learned a great deal! Our school systems really do more damage than good to our children's potential. And Brett does a wonderful job of pointing out not only the failures but the possibilities. I would caution people their are some very free thinking views expressed but the good news is, you know what he says is genuinely from his heart. If you have children in school I would suggest that you at least check out the first five podcasts. It's an excellent introduction to why school does suck today.
The second is a report on the college system. The dramatic rise in costs to go to school. And the huge burden of debt that most college graduates now have to wrestle with as they start their careers. And unfortunately, that "education" doesn't always lead them to the promised land they desired. Unfortunately, our government got involved and it's been another example of what disasters our government can create. And when debt is involved, you know how politicians love that.

Reinvigorating People! Getting people excited about life! And getting them to chose the red pill
A topic that often comes up with the "Liberty Movement" is: How do we wake people up?
Recently I was listening to a very interesting podcast by Brett Veinotte. In it Brett spoke about how he had to look within to find out what he's good at and more importantly what he was supposed to be doing. He came up with three goals that he felt a teacher should be sure to accomplish with every student.
His three goals briefly (for children):
1. Reigniting, reviving or restoring the curiosity we all have within us but has been destroyed by the system. Then perpetuating and fostering that curiosity once they have it.
2. Helping them understand there can be something gained from positive relationships with adults. Allowing them to see the wisdom in others.
3. Stopping them from running away from learning. Restoring the love of learning.
This audio is about 30 minutes but well worth the time.
I can only speak for myself and my experience. I didn't have a bad education. I went to Catholic schools my first six grades and then over the next 6 years probably three of the better public schools in the state. But I was still sick of school. So sick, I joined the Army the day I turned 17. It wasn't until I got out of the Army, with a GI Bill... and knowing I had money to spend, I went back to school. First, for a vocation that at first interested me, then into a community college and finally a well known University. I had reinvigorated my curiosity and my love of learning! But even then, in my late 20s I still didn't grasp the importance. It wasn't until I was in my 40's that I really started learning...
